Romeo & Juliet Hip Hop Style in the LIC
Among the industrial eye-sores and luxury condo monstrosities of Long Island City, sits the LaGuardia Performing Arts Center. This arts facility is “committed to presenting culturally and ethnically diverse programming of the highest quality for the College community, the residents of Queens and the tri-state area” One particularly interesting event taking place in March is the hip-hop rendition of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. ”Set in Harlem, this hip-hopped-up “Romeo and Juliet” is a fast-moving and modern take on the classic play…the entire production is scored with soul, R&B, and rap.
