Mojave SouthWestern food Astoria
Mojave (22-36 31st St Astoria, NY 11105 (718) 545-4100) knows how to do business and it’s a good thing. Before it was Mojave- this transient spot used to be Wings & Things, then All Star Burger- all short lived. Let’s hope Mojave is here to stay. With over 50 different kinds of tequila- from the high-lands to the low lands aged and not so aged, it’s got something to offer to everyone. It greatly resembles its owner establishment in Manhattan- Agave. Whether you’re going for breakfast, dinner or anything in between, the food here is well prepared and tasty. The prices are decent, about $12 will get you a prix fix brunch, $15-$20 for an entree. The traditional meals as well as the more eclectic options will keep you coming back. The Santa fe Shepard’s Pie is a twist on a traditional dish, and made with chili mac, pork and braised beef. Classic sirloin chicken fried steak is always a winner and seared sea scallops offer meal with a lighter take. They serve free blue corn chips and a smile with every meal. The servers are attentive and know their stuff. Though this restaurant/bar is hip in decor with bamboo ceiling, dark wooden tables and chairs, candle light, it’s lacking in the rustic small town feel that most Astoria restaurants provide. The ambiance resembles that of a bigger Manhattan restaurant. The music can be loud at times, but patrons don’t seem to mind. Great place to bring some friends on a weekend night.
