El Basurero Colombian food in Astoria

Behold, the Holy Trash Can of Colombian Food!
This festive restaurant on 32-17 Steinway Street is no ordinary place to eat…or drink. The minute you walk in, you are transported to what would resemble theme-park attractions, Colombian style. Tacky? Perhaps. Fun? You bet! The food is good but the atmosphere is what really keeps patrons coming back. Serving tapas and traditional entrees and a full bar is there to help you wash everything down. Be sure to go on the weekend to be personally serenaded by a mariachi band in full costume.

It is a weird name for a restaurant. That names belong to like a clothing, toy or thrift store, any way, even thou the name provides a misconception of a food place, the food is good for those who realy are used to eat good latin american food and not for those with a picky taste. The food is tasty and excellent, well presented in good portions. Your money is worthy for what you get. If you like to eat small portions then go to a Japanese restaurant.
Once inside El Basurero you feel like in a party, even though they should play more typical colombian music (folklore) and stay away from sometimes loud salsa or merengue that interfears while chatting with some one else if you are eating with company. Besides they have TV sets playing all the time with their volume up as well.
I will recommended to see something out of the extraordinary but again not for those with a high class society label attached to their foreheads.

The name of this restaurant will make you think about what kind of food do they serve in there. The very creative decorations inside the restaurant is from where it draws its name. The food is rich and tasteful plus served in good portions depending on what you eat. Bandeja tipica o paisa is great for those who like to eat a lot, a tasty fish for those who like to eat light, steaks are delicious, sancocho de cola the best in soups. Pretty colombian waitresses were amiable and courteous. I definitively will recommend it.

Ël Basurero is the WORST Colombian restaurant I’ve been to. Although the decor is cool (trying to imitate Andres Carne de Res in Bogota…), the food was tasteless, the bistec had a big chunk of fat, the service was bad, and it was too expensive for the quality of the food and service. If you want to have Colombian food in Astoria I would suggest going to La Fonda Antioquena, which is next door for more authentic Colombian food.
