Best (and worst) Gyms in Astoria & Surrounding Areas
It’s that time again. The holidays approach, you spend lots of money, you party like an animal, and before you know it, you’ve gained thirty pounds. Here is a list of fitness centers in Queens I compiled for you, some to which I belonged.
Matrix Astoria
Pros: Offers free parking, affordable monthly membership, exceptionally clean, towels, various classes, spacious lockers rooms, decent equipment (weights, cardio), friendly and helpful staff
Cons: Cleaning people are often floating around in the locker rooms- this can be an embarrassing encounter if they hang around while clients are showering, facility is located in a basement.

YMCA Long Island City
Pros: Large indoor pool & track, cardio, weights, affordable (about $50 monthly) no-commitment membership that offers financial aid depending on your income, cordial staff, classes, fitness training available with membership, resources center, discounts on classes like guitar and language learning, everyone is treated equally.
Cons: While in a safe area of Queens, there just isn’t much going on around 33rd St LIC and getting around the building is like a maze.
